Working with family members
Families are decisively affected when a family member suffers from schizophrenia. The suffering of the afflicted also impacts their lives. Especially when the illness begins during youth and becomes chronic and recurring, the family members are also burdened by the manifestations of the illness. Today it is inconceivable to consider an appropriate treatment for schizophrenia without including the family members. Such is the case that clarifying the nature of the illness plays a very important role. Studies have shown: if improvement in the understanding of the illness within the family is achieved, an important foundation for a successful therapy has been laid.
